Take The Lead
When I recently decided to go see "Take The Lead" when it came out in the theatres last week, I had basically made up my mind that it would be another wonderful dance movie to add to my collection. I had my doubts as to the dancing talents of Antonio Banderas because of my somewhat 'painful' memory of him dancing a slow instead of a rumba to a beautiful latin song in Mambo Kings. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Antonio oozes passion from every pore of his latin body as he does a mean, sexy tango in front of the students he is trying to impress.

Burn The Floor (1999)
A must for your dance collection! A combination of ballroom and modern style dance. Definitely a must see. The dance scenes are very exciting; the dancers are wonderfully accomplished, dazzling and sexy. Their technique is incredible; this movie definitely won't let you down! |

Center Stage (2000)
Amanda Schull/Zoe Saldana/Susan May Pratt/Peter Gallagher
A wonderful story about a young Ballet dancer. "A group of dancers struggle
to survive the pressures of joining the American Ballet Company." Very inspiring for all dancers. This has a wonderful storyline with the young dance students following their dreams, trying to become professionals in the highly competitive danceworld. The dancers are very well-trained and impressive. I'm sure ballet and jazz studios saw an influx of new students not long after this movie was released. |

Dance With Me (1998)
Vanessa Williams and Chayanne
I love this movie and never get tired of watching it. This has to be one of my very very favorite dance movies. Vanessa Williams plays a wonderful portrayal of an unmarried mother and dance teacher wanting to get back into dance competitions and Chayanne is cute, charming and funny as the new dance studio caretaker who surprises everyone with his moves on and off the dance floor! |

Dirty Dancing (1987)
Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey
This is a classic and worth adding to your dance movie collection! The scene takes place in late summer of the 1960's in the Catskill mountains. Innocent Francis "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) and her family rent a cabin at a resort, and during the stay meets one of the staff's dancers, Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). Baby stumbles upon a unique type of dancing that the staff members are doing in hiding; she is eager to try this new style of dance especially when she sees Johnny dancing. Eventually the story unfolds further with Johnny's partner admitting to being pregnant and wanting an abortion but that will cancel their annual performance at one of the other hotels. Eventually Baby is 'enlisted' to be Johnny's dance partner with Johnny training Baby as a series of comical events ensued. During all this, Baby and Johnny fall in love, much to the dismay of Baby's father. If you haven't seen this one, it's a must. If you've seen it, it's a must to see it again and again! |

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004)
Diego Luna with a cameo appearance from Patrick Swayze
"A good movie, though it’s not really a sequel to the original Dirty Dancing.
Plot Outline: Takes place in Cuba in 1958. An American girl and her
parents arrive in Cuba right before the Revolution breaks out. She meets a
local boy who instantly notices her dancing abilities and romances
her." A cute storyline with great music and dance moves. The competition at the end leaves you wanting for more, though - but definitely a must see! |
