If you Drink...Don't Dance!

by Mary Harwood (http://www.cwmusic.com)

Did this title catch your attention? No, this is not going to be a lecture on drinking but rather some observations and comparisons. Any bartender will tell you, dancers on the whole are not drinkers. Of course, a few dancers will tell you that an icy cold one or two will make you more relaxed and less self conscience but the majority of dancers stop there. Why? Does that mean dancers don't want to let their hair down and party? Quite the opposite. It’s a proven fact dancers can achieve a high as strong as their drinking buddies, but without the hangover in the morning.

Dancing or any type of physical exercise causes the body to release endorphins. Endorphins are an opiate like substance manufactured in the body, which have multiple receptor sites, particularly in the central nervous system. When levels of endorphins are high, people can feel euphoric. This occurrence has also been referred to as "runners high". It’s an awesome feeling! Of course you have to dance more than a couple to achieve this. Try doing a good half hour or more of continuous dancing, and don't just shuffle your feet, put some energy into it. You'll feel great.

And, don't forget, think of the benefit to your legs and thighs. What more can you ask for? Feeling great on the inside and looking great on the outside. Get out there and dance!

As Always...Happy Dancing!
